All of the emeralds so far have been found in "border" states: All of the states so far have a coast line or a border with another country.

I'm thinking what we really need is a bunch of truckers. They could hit every rest area around and find it via a brute force search.

On the back of the book it says "faces by Adam Rex and numbers by Anna Sheffield" -- I took it for granted all along that this merely referred to the faces of the building dwellers, but now I am thinking that it may mean that Rex made a clock face, which is also hidden. This would also account for the seemingly extra 13th floor, where the face supposedly still remains sans numbers.

Anaxagora and Indiana Jones were both crusaders and "mustard-stained chubster" anagrams to "Crusaders bid hunt M state", or "Bid crusaders hunt M state". He maybe "biidding" us-also crusaders-to narrow our search to states begining with the letter M. The question then becomes-which state and which floor?

It seems all of the discussion have come to a halt...no Cluesday clue, no new posts on Tweleve or here...but there are still 3 numbers out there! I hope to see additiional discussions. I know I'm still looking, but am running out of ideas. Friday I'm heading out on yet another hunt...I think my 7th, and probably another dead end, but we've got to keep trying and eventually somebody will find those numbers!

I am working on the 4th floor, as I feel it is nearby, and I also see pretty specific directions that take me off the highway; the mile marker I've identified corresponds with an exit, not a rest area. The "directions" off that exit match exactly (Go 11 miles on a specific route #; at the 7th light turn right ; go another 17 miles to the next landmark; take a left and go 5 more miles to another landmark, and then a short walk (around 1 mile) to where I think the #12 is buried (the large bag of carrots implies a lot of "carats"). Of course, I could be completely wrong on all accounts - I am begining to see associations everywhere- even in the NYT crossword puzzles! But I have to check the site as I have to at least rule it out so I can look elsewhere.

Keep plugging and keep posting ideas. As Gus said a few weeks ago, "Don't let your energies flag!"

Love the enthusiasm! I too was a bit surprised by the lack of a Tuesday clue. Personally I'm still checking all the various sites fairly frequently, but I have run out of ideas to post. It seems that I can concoct a solution for every rest area in the country, but no paticular solve seems any better than the next. I'm stumped!
